At the Temecula Valley Museum we are making our “Touch History” children’s educational area soooo much more touchable!! We’re unlocking the doors and letting children experience history with their hands, hearts and minds. Bring the kids and let them pretend to be the proprietor of Burnham Mercantile Store, cook on the 1880’s play stove, create a puppet show starring Louis and Ramona Wolf, sell fabrics in the Dress Shop, make a fire (almost) at a Mormon Battalion campsite, try a Native American grinding stone (metate) and more! ]]> The Temecula Valley Museum is saddened by the passing of longtime Temecula resident and civic leader, Mr. Bill Harker, who died on Thursday, March 7th at the age of 96.

Bills’ accomplishments are numerous, including but not limited to : Manager of the weekly paper “Rancho News”; Publisher of several magazines including the Temecula Valley Museum’s “High Country”; Executive Director of the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce; and Co-Founder of the Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival, now celebrating its 30th year.

Bill was warm and friendly and well loved by all who knew him. He was a true Temecula treasure …. a modern pioneer who greatly contributed to making Temecula the wonderful city it has become. His memory will be cherished by those fortunate to call him friend and celebrated by those who love Temecula history.

It’s that time of year again for vendors to reserve a space in the Temecula Valley Museum’s Biannual Bazaar to be held Saturday, October 20 in Sam Hicks Monument Park, Old Town Temecula. The cost is a mere $25.00 for a 10’ X 10’ space to promote your organization or sell crafts and other approved items. All reservation proceeds benefit the Temecula Valley Museum. The bazaar will run from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Call the museum at (951) 694-6450 for more information. The event is sponsored by the museum’s Board of Directors in cooperation with members of the Temecula Valley Women’s Club.

The Temecula Valley Museum and Sam Hicks Monument Park is located at 28314 Mercedes Street in Old Town Temecula. Operating Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

Start off your weekend with a fun and unique experience for friends and family alike.  Join us for a historical docent guided tour of Old Town Temecula and feel the early 1900’s come to life.  Hear colorful stories and events from our past about Joe Winkels who entertained legends Jack Dempsey, Jack Sharkey and Fatty Arbuckle at the Ramona Inn.  Learn about Temecula’s first bank and its daring bank robbery.   See our oldest landmarks and hear about our most intriguing local characters.

The tour departs from the Temecula Valley Museum at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 15th with docent Dale Garcia.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  There is a $2.00 fee.  To R.S.V.P. or for more information please call (951) 694-6450.

Family Day Event: Pencil & Dry Pastel Sketching Workshop

Saturday, April 28 – Pencil and Dry Pastel Sketching Workshop  – 10:00 AM to Noon

The Temecula Valley Museum invites you to attend a pencil and dry pastel sketching workshop taught by local art instructor Reshma Solbach. Learn some basic drawing and shadowing techniques from a professional. Paper and pencils will be furnished. No experience required.  The workshop will be held on Saturday, April 28th from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Temecula Valley Museum.  Children (8 years and older) are encouraged to attend.

Class fee:  $5.00.  Limited class size; waiting list will be taken.

]]> Come join us on Saturday, April 14th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM as we celebrate the opening of the museum’s latest exhibit, Wine Country – From the Missions to Modern Day.  This exhibit explores grape growing and winemaking in the Temecula Valley from the first plantings by Spanish missionaries to today’s vast array of wineries producing award-winning wines.  The exhibit features photographs and artifacts from some of the founders of Temecula’s Wine Country.

The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting sponsored by the Friends of the Museum and local vintners  The highlight of the evening will feature a panel of early winery owners and vinters offering reflections on the creation and evolution of Temecula’s Wine Country.

A donation of $2.00 per person is suggested.  Call (951) 694-6450 to RSVP.
